North South MRT Line

North South MRT Line, or commonly known as Red Line, is Singapore's first rail line to be built in the 1980s. The current North South Line is a semi-loop which connects the Central Area to Jurong East, a regional center in the west. The line makes a delibrate loop to the north so that areas in the north can be linked to the southern regions of Singapore.

The North South Line was intially a 2-tier line in which the nothern area of Singapore was not connected. However, as the northern part of Singapore became more developed, the Singapore government saw the need to build a MRT line to serve those areas, hence joining the 2-tier North South Line into a semi-loop.

Trains with upgraded facilities will always be deloyed on the North South Line first due to its close promixity with Bishan Depot, where all new materials and technology are tested first.
